Short answer: change it on the machine maker’s schedule, not on a guess. Most industrial and mobile hydraulic systems land somewhere between 2,000 and 4,000 operating hours with good filtration, but the only schedule that counts is the one in the manual – backed up by what the oil itself tells you.

WHAT SHORTENS THE INTERVAL

Dirt, water and heat are the three killers. A machine that works dusty demolition, sits outside in the weather, or runs hot will need oil sooner than a clean indoor system. High-duty-cycle equipment – compactors, breakers, steady route trucks – ages oil faster than occasional-use machines.

SIGNS THE OIL IS DONE

Dark or milky oil in the sight glass, a burnt smell at the filler cap, running hotter than usual, sluggish or jerky actuators, and filters plugging early. Any one of those means pull a sample and plan the change, whatever the hour meter says.

FILTERS ARE PART OF THE INTERVAL

Fresh oil through a dead filter is a wasted change. Change the hydraulic filters with the oil, and on high-hour machines change filters between oil changes on the maker’s schedule. We stock filters alongside the fluid for exactly that reason.

USED OIL PICKUP

A drum change leaves a drum of used oil. Ask about used oil collection when you order – we handle it as part of the delivery run for qualifying accounts.
